Therapy

How I work

Therapy is a space to come home to yourself. Together, we’ll explore your experience with curiosity, openness and compassion. That might mean talking about what happened to you, what you’re feeling, or what you notice in your body right now. Meeting your experience with acceptance can create space for healing, change and growth.Alongside talking, I use gentle, somatic (body-based) work to help us get closer to the heart of the matter. My approach is humanistic, person-centred and trauma-informed. It draws on contemporary psychology, my years of practice as a Zen Buddhist monk, and my earlier work as a pharmacist in hospital and community healthcare. If spirituality matters to you, there can be room for that too. Each course of therapy is as bespoke as you are individual. We’ll go at your pace and start with what matters most to you.Individual Therapy
For anxiety, low mood, stress and burnout, grief, a hard life change or health diagnosis, a harsh inner critic, or the sense that something isn't right even if you can't yet name it.
I have a particular interest in how our early relationships shape us, and how difficult experiences can stay held in the body long after they've passed.Couples Therapy
For couples who keep having the same argument, who have drifted apart, who are recovering from an affair or a breach of trust, or who face a big decision together. Both of you get heard, and I don't take sides.

About

Three disciplines inform how I work with people. I first trained and worked as a pharmacist in community, hospital and hospice settings, where I learned a lot about how people face illness, fear and loss. I then spent nine years in contemplative monastic practice in the Plum Village Zen Buddhist tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh. That time taught me to stay present with difficulty rather than rush to fix it, and it still shapes how I listen.I have an MSc. in psychotherapy, with a humanistic, person-centred training and a Gestalt and somatic focus, and I'm fully accredited with IAHIP and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). I've also worked as a couples practitioner with a specialist couples counselling agency in Ireland. My approach combines these three foundations in Western healthcare, Eastern contemplative traditions, and humanistic psychology.I attend regular clinical supervision and keep up ongoing professional development.

Everything you tell me is confidential. The limits to that confidentiality are the following:
I discuss my work with a clinical supervisor without identifying you. I would share information without your consent only where safety or the law requires it:

• a child may be at risk: as a mandated person under the Children First Act 2015, I must report this to Tusla

• a court orders it
Where possible, I'll talk with you first.
In couples therapy I keep one shared record and don't hold secrets between partners. Full details are in my client agreement.

Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, restrict or object to its use, or receive a copy to take elsewhere. Email me and I'll respond within one month. Some records must be kept for the periods above, and in couples work I may need to remove your partner's information before sharing a record with you.
